Chapter 10. My Number One
Knowing that her mother-in-law was cornered, Kara smiled faintly. "If that's true, does it mean you’re shining less than Mrs. Bell?"
Suddenly, Kara covered her mouth with her hand, imitating Melanie earlier. "Isn't that impossible? You came from a wealthy family and your abilities were definitely far above hers. There's no way you could lose to Vivian Bell, right?"
"You!"
Just as Melanie was rebuking, Kara got up from her chair.
"Sorry, Mom," she interrupted with a sweet smile, "I think our conversation should stop here. There's no point in us hurting each other. As women, shouldn't we support each other?"
After raising an eyebrow, Kara nodded slightly.
"Thank you for this little conversation, Mom. I have better understanding now. It turns out that you are an extraordinarily good person. I appreciate your concern for me. But, don't worry. Frank is not what you imagine. I believe he can't possibly abandon me for the sake of whatever."
