Chapter 18. Playing Victim
One of Barbara's eyebrows rose. "But she won't die, right? It wouldn't be funny if we both went to jail."
Melanie sighed in amusement. "Of course not. I’m still sane."
"Then, won't she be suspicious? What if the food tastes different?"
Melanie fell silent again. After shaking her head quickly, she took her daughter's hand. "Don't think too much, Dear. Let's just carry out this plan as best we can. Now, let's help me crush these pills. I’ve already taken a mortar from the kitchen."
Barbara's brows were still furrowed. The bad feeling refused to leave her heart. Even so, she still obeyed Melanie, crushing the pills into a very fine powder.
Ten minutes before dinner, Melanie and Barbara arrived at the dining room. They seemed to be assigned to supervise the work of the servants. If the spoon was placed at the slightest angle, they would immediately protest. In fact, they were looking for an opportunity to take action.
