Chapter 4. Tom Hired a Detective
He wondered how she got out. After fixing himself, he called on the phone to deliver coffee. When the hotel boy knocked, he immediately let him in.
“Good morning, sir. This is your coffee,” the hotel boy said.
“Good morning! Please put it there,” he ordered.
“Sir, someone is giving it to you.” At the same time, something wrapped arrived.
“From whom?” asked the young man.
“It's a woman, sir. The name was not given.”
“Where is the girl?” He was excited to know right away because he was sure that was the girl he slept with last night.
“They checked out already, sir.”
“What? About what time?” he asked seriously.
“This morning, it must have been about six o'clock.”
“Okay. Thank you!”
“Do you need anything else, sir?” the hotel boy asked.
“No more, thank you!” When the hotel boy left, he immediately opened the wrapped item and looked at its contents. It turned out to be his clothes and there was a small piece of paper on it, which he immediately unfolded, thinking it had the woman's phone number or name. He was disappointed because there was only one note.
'Sorry. I used your clothes without saying goodbye. This is what I returned.'
He quickly finished his coffee and hurried to the information area of the hotel.
“Good morning, boss!” greeted the supervisor.
“Good morning, Eric. Can I have a look at the record book of those who checked out earlier around six o'clock?”
“Sure, boss!” he agreed. He handed the record book to his boss, and Tom opened it immediately.
“Boss, I just want to ask, are you looking for something?” he curiously asked.
“Yes. Did anyone check out this morning?”
“Yes, boss.” And Eric showed the names of those who checked out.
“This is the boss, Melodina Belargo.” He confirmed it.
“Where's her address, Eric?” He was excited to know.
“Tagum City is written here,” he replied
“I see.”
Tom knows the supervisor of their hotel because he has been working with them for a long time, and he considers him family.
“Boss, do you know her?”
“No, Eric. But I want to meet her.”
“Oh! I think you're in love with that girl, boss.” Eric joked.
“Maybe,” he replied shortly.
***Inspector Navarro's POV
When they arrived in Cebu, Divlen did not stop her cousin from asking questions. So, Jester confessed everything that happened to them that night.
Divlen couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Is the man handsome?” she asked with a smile.
“Yes. Possibly, that's why I didn't go against what he was doing,” she replied without hesitation.
Her cousin laughed again. “That man is lucky because you actually gave up the flag.” she sneered.
“Honestly. I don't regret what I'm doing because I'm happy,” she explained.
***Tom's POV
A few days later, Tom hired a detective to find Melodina Belargo. The detective immediately acted, he started searching for the woman, around Tagum City the detective went. But it failed to find Melodina Belargo. Because there is no such name in the area, he also went to the barangays to check the records of their residents, but the woman's name was not found.
Tom was busy at that time because he was attending to something in his father's office. Suddenly, his phone rang, so he looked at it. When he saw that it was Detective Salvaña who called, he immediately answered.
“Mr. Robinson, can we talk?” asked on the other line.
“Sure, detective. Just come here to the Office.”
“Okay, thank you.”
Tom is excited about what the detective will report. In the afternoon, his secretary called on the intercom.
“Yes?”
“Sir, someone has been looking for you. He is Mr. Salvaña,” said Raquel Plaquia, his personal secretary.
“Okay, let him in.”
“Okay, sir.”
The detective came in and made him sit down.
“Detective, what is the news?” he asked excitedly.
“I'm sorry, Mr. Robinson. But there is no Melodina Belargo in the place you gave me.”
“What! But how come there's nothing?” He suddenly frowned at what the detective said.
“Maybe the identity he gave is not true.” detective's opinion.
“Have you tried asking the barangays?”
“Yes. However, nothing really.”
“Alright, thank you, detective,” he sadly said.
After he handed the payment, the detective left. Tom is more and more mystified by the girl's personality. As the days pass, he searches for the girl more and more and can't get her out of his mind.
“I won't stop until I find you. I'm interested in finding out who you really are,” Tom said to himself, as he stared blankly at his laptop monitor.
***Inspector Navarro's POV
Inspector Navarro and her cousin went back to work. As the days passed, she couldn't get the man who gave her one night of happiness out of her mind. Occasionally, she loses her concentration at work because this is the only thing on her mind.
“Partner, is Phil-Am on your mind again?” she sneered because she saw her dumbfounded.
She didn't answer, she just shook her head and smiled.
“Partner, what are you planning to do, are you going to find him?” Divlen asked.
“I don't have a plan, partner, he's just a nuisance to my work,” she replied.
They were in the middle of a conversation when someone called their line because there was a hold-up going on in a big mall, so they left rushing to rescue the place. They were there in just a few minutes. When the policemen saw them, they immediately saluted.
“NBI department, what's the situation inside?” Inspector Navarro asked a policeman hiding in a patrol car.
“Inspector, there are hostages inside, so it's hard for us to get in.”
“How many are in there?”
“About six, inspector.”
“Alright, you take care of it, we'll just spin it.”
“Okay, be careful.”
“They take care," Detective Jacutin replied.
The partner was carefully going around the back of the mall, and there they looked for a way to pass. They saw the exit door, so they entered slowly. The inspector signaled to her partner on the other side, and she on the other side. The detective nodded, and they carefully approached the holders.
Until Inspector Navarro approached a man with his back turned and hit him on the back of the neck, causing him to lose consciousness. She immediately pulled it and tied it.
