Chapter 70. Destined for Him

Rafaella could see every movement of the two men as they entered their yard, thanks to the starry sky. When Sophia noticed them bouncing in their yard, her rage increased even more.

Rafaella watched a man hit a dog in the head with a stick he was wielding and covered her mouth to hold back her tears. The dog then collapsed upon the grass. There didn't seem to be any more life.

And then she turned to face her bedroom door once more. It was fortunate that the light in her bedroom was off. She was ready to shut her door with her heart racing when she thought about her mother and decided to leave the hallway to find her.

She also heard the yelling from downstairs. Mrs. Wood's screaming voice was heard, and then there was silence.

She forced a hard swallow as she struggled to see in the pitch-black. She hoped their governess was doing fine.
