“I know…” Evelyn mumbled with a sigh, halting River’s thoughts. “And believe it or not, I understand. But River… This time, you have done the wrong thing.”
River frowned, not understanding Evelyn’s words.
“I’m protecting her,” he emphasized, his voice deeper than usual. “What’s wrong with protecting the person I love? I did that for her sake.”
“No, you didn’t.” Evelyn shook her head. “Don’t get me wrong. I understand your intentions, but hiding the truth from her won’t protect the Princess from the pain. Instead, it will intensify it.”
She added with a sigh, “And you just became a big contributor to that, even without you realizing, River.”
The silence filled the conversation as River didn’t answer immediately.
