Chapter 34. The Offer
Dario entered without knocking, a grin already spreading across his face.
“I’ve got good news,” he said. “Nero dug something. Kid still can’t pick a decent nickname, but damn, he’s talented.”
Ezio looked up from the papers on his desk. “Go on.”
Dario dropped a folder in front of him. “He found the clinic. Turns out, Signora Altieri’s been a regular patient at the same fancy place the rest of the Altieri family used. Nothing strange there—except there’s no record of her pregnancy. None.”
Ezio’s brows furrowed. “And before she married Domenico?”
“That’s the interesting part,” Dario said, tapping the folder. “Before the marriage, she visited another clinic. A cheaper private one. Paper archives, barely holding together—but they’re still there. Nero sent someone, slipped a little cash to the nurse, and we got this.”
He handed Ezio two photocopied files. “Apparently, the nurse didn’t realize there were two under her maiden name—Simona Rossi. Thought it
