Chapter 80. Get You Out
Ezio’s phone buzzed across the coffee table. He frowned—no one had that number except Dario, Rosa, and two other men.
Unknown caller ID.
He hesitated a fraction of a second, then answered.
“Moroni,” he said.
A familiar voice slid through the line, smooth but strained at the edges.
“Ezio. It’s Antonio.”
Ezio’s brows pulled together.
“Antonio.”
“We need to speak.”
Ezio shifted where he stood, back against the window, watching the city blur beneath the darkening sky. “What is it?”
Antonio exhaled a slow breath, the kind that carried bad news. “We’ve heard the rumors about last night.”
Ezio’s jaw tightened. Of course they had. Everyone heard everything when it came to the Benedetti clan.
Antonio continued, “Signor Rinaldi wishes to offer his assistance.”
Ezio’s voice sharpened. “Assistance?”
“Men. Intel. Safe houses. Whatever is needed,” Antonio said. “His only concern is Margherita’s safety.”
