Chapter 84. She’s Gone
Gabriella came back balancing a package of fish that looked entirely too large for her arms.
“Ugh—why does Rosa need half the ocean?” she muttered, dumping it into the cart. “My arms are gonna fall off.”
Dante didn’t even crack a smile. His eyes flicked down the aisle Margherita had taken moments ago. She was taking too long.
“Where is she?” he murmured.
Gabriella shrugged. “She went for the spices, right? Maybe she’s reading labels like a grandma.” She adjusted her hair with her free hand. “Come on, let’s go get—”
A crash cut her off.
A loud, metallic BANG—the unmistakable sound of an entire shelf collapsing.
Customers shouted immediately.
“What the hell—?”
“Watch where you’re going!”
“Are you blind?!”
Employees rushed in from all directions, blocking the aisle with carts, boxes, and arms flailing.
Dante’s instincts snapped taut. This wasn’t a coincidence.
He grabbed Gabriella’s shoulder. “Stay here.”
