Chapter 41. To Dig Deep
Calla shuddered at every word Rico let loose. Her stomach dropped as he spoke about Tristan… the way he said he should’ve kept him alive, let him beg, and make him remember. It sounded like he wanted to drag Tristan out of his grave just to hurt him again and again, and the thought made her skin crawl.
Her eyes were glued to him the whole time and her skin was as white as paper.
“You’re sick,” she blurted in a whisper and gasped, slapping her mouth shut with her palms. She said it in her head, and didn’t mean to air it out.
To her surprise, Rico didn’t get angry. Instead, an eerie grin spread on his lips.
“I am,” he said. “And that’s how I rule the world.”
“I’m sorry,” she sighed and moved away from him, as if the distance could cool the heat of his voice. Her hands were trembling, so she hugged her arms to her chest to stop them from shaking.
