“Loch Ness monster? Nope.” Beth grinned, trying to lighten the tension that had been building since their encounter with the gnome. “That isn’t Loch Ness. Therefore, can’t be the Loch Ness monster. Simple as that.” She let a teasing lilt creep into her voice, hoping to provoke a reaction.
Mike scowled, a half-smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Leave it to a lawyer to argue the semantics of a cryptid,” he said, the playful tone making his words sound like a warning and a joke simultaneously.
Beth laughed softly. “It’s the same reason Bigfoot can’t be a Bigfoot in the Himalayas. He’s called something different there.” She waved a hand vaguely toward the distant mountains, emphasizing the point with exaggerated seriousness.
