Chapter 97. The Lighthouse of Hope
When she reached the door, Red cautiously opened it. The creaking wood and a robust and ammonia-like smell greeted her.
Inside, it was too dark to see anything. Red opened the door wider, hoping for more light, but it only extended a meter.
Near her feet, an old flashlight lay on the ground.
"What's this?" she muttered softly.
Red picked it up, examined it, and slid the switch up. Light burst forth, shining directly into her eyes.
"Geez!" Red blinked, her eyes stinging.
With the flashlight's help, Red scanned the room's interior. A spiral staircase led up to the lighthouse's top. Dusty and neglected wooden boxes were piled haphazardly.
Cautiously, Red approached the spiral staircase, intending to climb, but her left eye immediately signalled danger.
