Book 4: A Mistake
Finn
My paws thud over dirt. Wind tousles my fur. Here, in my wolf form, I can almost hide from all the thoughts whirling through my head and lose myself in the simple, animal pleasures.
Those simple, animal pleasures being exactly what fucked me in the first place.
Still, my body hums with energy. Excitement. It screams for me to forget the castle, to turn around and charge after the Tansy Beach contingent. I can chase them all the way to the border before I risk causing an international incident. My legs ache for the stretch, my lungs for the challenge.
I ignore it. It’s nothing more than Haze-hangover to go with the more classic one throbbing in my temples. I have no idea what came over me in the tent. Asking Xander to stay, to face what happened…what the hell did I expect? He’d already decided to leave, and if I think about it for more than one Goddess-damned moment, I know that he’s right.
What happened between us was a mistake.
