Corwyn spits me out at the feet of the team of guards, all in Tansy Beach indigo, who helped him subdue me. My arm burns, but it’s nowhere near as bad as my mark, which feels like it’s sinking white-hot claws into my heart. I have to go back. Xandra needs me.
A shift tingles in the back of my mind. I know I can beat Corwyn—or at least, I think I can. I glance over my shoulder at the mostly healed gash across his face. He could’ve let me do that so he could make that Goddess-damned scene. To get rid of Kieran.
After what he just did to Xandra, I can’t put anything past him.
So I sit on the ground, oozing blood, until he’s done mind-linking orders to these soldiers and pads away. I don’t know what he’s done, but I know I stand a better chance at just about anything with him far away.
