Sara locked herself in the guest room and pressed the phone to her ear with trembling fingers. “Father,” she sobbed the moment the line connected. “Eric still won’t look at me. He barely touches me anymore. Everything is still about her…Elena. He has finally found out… she was his first love.”

There was a pause on the other end. Then Alpha Jose sighed, long and heavy. “If that’s true,” he said calmly, “then you’ve already lost him, my dear.”

Sara’s breath hitched. “No,” she whispered fiercely. “No, I haven’t. I can’t lose him. Do you hear me? I won’t.”

“Come home,” Alpha Jose said flatly. “This marriage has run its course.”

Her tears turned hot, angry. “Come home?” she snapped. “And let that skanky bitch win? Is that what you’re saying?” She laughed bitterly through her tears. “She’s not even as beautiful as me. Not as polished. Not as worthy. Why…why can’t he forget her after everything she’s done? After everything we’ve done to erase her?”
