Chapter 9. A Life Changing Contract

Elena’s POV

I woke up slowly, lost and wrapped in a scent that didn’t belong to me.

The room was quiet. Soft light filtered through heavy curtains, lush walls painted in subtle and nude colours. Everything looked unfamiliar, but clean, peaceful… and expensive.

My heart jumped. Where the hell am I?

I sat up at once and realized I was wearing a silk robe…far too big for me. It slid off one shoulder, smooth and cool against my skin. Definitely not mine.

Panic crept in. How did I get here?

I clutched the robe closed, quickly checking myself. Arms. Legs. Inner thighs. No bruises, no marks, no soreness. Nothing between my legs suggested I’d been touched. I exhaled—long and slow—only then realizing I’d been holding my breath.

I hadn’t been violated. Somehow, that only made the confusion worse.

“Good you’re awake.”

His voice came from behind me; deep, calm and unmistakable.

I turned so fast my head hurt.
