I waited. Hoped.
But she still wouldn’t look at me.
I crossed the room, slowly, cautious of every step like I was walking toward a wounded animal. Afraid of startling her.
“Olivia…” I said her name like a prayer, low and soft. “Please say something.”
That’s when she turned to me. Her eyes weren’t empty. They were full. Brimming. Anger, betrayal, heartbreak. She looked like she was holding herself together by threads.
“You could’ve killed him,” she said. Her voice shook, but her words were clear. “You would’ve kept going despite my pleas and if Ryker hadn’t stopped you…” her voice broke.
I opened my mouth. Nothing came out.
“That wasn’t the man I fell in love with,” she whispered. “That wasn’t you.”
The words struck harder than any blow.
“I am still me,” I insisted, desperate. “But every moment you’re here and still not fully mine drives me insane.”
