The carpeted floor rendered my steps noiseless, though it meant it's silent enough for me to hear my heart beating. A frantic, loud rhythm that contrasted with the lack of sound in the room. My eyes automatically shifted towards the bathroom door, which was left ajar. That meant Aiden couldn't be there as well. Where did he go?
