Chapter 41
Stepping aside, Jessa waited for Jason to enter the cabin before slamming the door and leaning against the wooden panels. Outside, half a dozen warriors roamed the woods, keeping a constant guard on the area. She could hear the occasional rustle of underbrush as they circled the cabin. No one would intrude without her permission.
"What the hell are you doing here, Jess?"
"Let me ask you the same?"
"We are here to patrol."
"So I am."
"Jess, you were demoted, remember?"
"I know, but there is something in this cabin I can't put my finger on. It was like calling me."
"How?" Jason asked.
"Beat me, I don't even know," Jessa growled. She’d never been one for pleasantries. Why use a scalpel when a sledgehammer was so much more fun?
With the familiarity of a longtime lover, Jason strolled across the room to grab a bottle of whiskey from the mantel, taking a deep swig before turning to meet her glowing gaze.
"I t-think t-this is um-a demon'
