Minute after minute, I feel better and have more energy. My left arm is still numb, but I can move everything else. I ask for more water and end up drinking the rest of the cup.
She explains that my left shoulder was injured the most because it had a silver bullet in my joints and a nasty bite wound.
I tense up when she explains that she arrived just when the fighting ended, but our warriors were still hunting down the remaining rogues.
I wanted to keep her far from the fight. I went into the battle thinking she was safe, but she could’ve gotten hurt.
Before I could deep dive into guilt with images of her being hurt, her voice goes higher with every word as she explains how frightened she was when she caught sight of me lying on the ground. I reach up to caress her face as her tears begin to fall.
“I’m just so relieved you’re awake,” she whispers through tears.
