I took a deep breath, debating whether to confide in Aurora about my worries.

“Nova?”

“I'm not quite sure where to start, Aurora. Something's bothering me, and I have a feeling Astrid will return here soon,” I finally admitted.

“Why worry about your stepsister? Ryder has made it clear that you're the one he wants. Plus, Astrid's banned from coming here,” Aurora reminded me.

“But for how long, Aurora? Her family holds power, and they were allies to Ryder's enemies,” I countered. “And I swear I saw Astrid on our wedding day,” I added, but Aurora brushed it off with a laugh.

“Nonsense! If she were here, Ryder would be furious,” Aurora scoffed.

“I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid she's plotting to take Ryder away from me,” I confessed.

“Are you projecting your own insecurities onto Astrid?” Aurora questioned gently.

“I'm not insecure, Aurora!” I protested, my voice rising with defensiveness.

“Well, I hope that's true, Nova.
