“Is the baby fine?” Burhan asked the doctor, his voice tense with restrained anxiety. The doctor’s face was a careful mask, hiding whatever he truly thought. The doctor had just finished checking up on an unconscious Roshanay, carefully closing his file as he turned to face Burhan.
“The baby is doing fine, Mr. Burhan. There is nothing to worry about on that front right now,” the doctor said calmly, offering a brief moment of relief. Relief washed over Burhan like cool water on a burn, brief but welcome. Then his expression shifted, growing more serious. “But I am a bit concerned about your sister. She is spending most of her time alone in her room, which suggests she is under a lot of emotional stress. That kind of isolation can possibly be a sign of prenatal depression. If it continues, it might start affecting not just her mental and physical health, but the baby’s well being too.”
