“I am here with you. Don’t worry,” Burhan said gently, his voice calm but filled with concern. “Let’s go to your room so you can rest properly.” They both slowly walked inside, the soft carpet muffling their footsteps. Burhan carefully helped her sit on the edge of the bed, making her lie down and tucking the blanket around her neatly to ensure she was warm and comfortable. Then he quietly occupied a seat on the nearby sofa, his eyes never leaving her face, watching her with quiet worry and protective vigilance. Roshanay glanced at her brother for a few moments, the faint glow of the bedside lamp reflecting in her teary eyes, before the sleep overtook her once again.
The sleeping pills were doing their job, calming her body and slowing her racing thoughts. But even as her eyelids closed and her breathing steadied, the tears from her eyes continued to fall quietly, leaving tiny damp trails on her cheeks.
