Chapter 2
“Why are you outside?”
I tried to smile, but it looks anxious. I’m sure he would notice my nervousness.
“I just walked around the house. I want to be familiar with it because from now on I’m going to live here,” I chuckled, but I can tell he could see the uneasiness.
He looked closely at my face and examined it. His eyes widened, which I was so scared of because he might know what I heard.
“Why are you pale? Are you okay? You still have a headache?” he was hysterical, wiped the sweat from my eyes, and touched my head.
I looked down because I wasn’t used to someone doing this on me. If I was used to it when I still have complete memories, now I am not comfortable.
I removed his hand from my face and avoided his eyes. He seemed to get that I was weary because he quickly withdrew his hands.
“Oh.”
I threw him an apologetic expression, but he just returned me a smile and ruffled my hair again. Did he like to mess with my hair before I even lose my memory?
“Sir Randall, your dinner is ready. Eat before it’s cold,” the maid called to us.
He snatched my waist and aided me again. I would have taken out his hand, but he spoke up.
“You’re pale, you might stumble. Please, just this one.”
Well, I gave up stopping him. Following him and entering the kitchen, I asked him in a whisper, “What are their names? It’s embarrassing that I’m going to ask something even though I don’t know their names.”
He signaled the oldest of them and said something to her. Soon, seven helpers came out and lined up at the counter. Two men and five women. One by one, they introduced themselves to me.
“I’m Emily, in charge of this house. I’m glad to be with you, Mrs. Adams,” she said seriously while my cheeks blushed at what she called me.
“I’m Estelle. Clara is with me, the cleaner on the second floor, sometimes in Sir Randall’s office,” she said, smiling. They introduced themselves one after another.
They already left. The two of us were just left alone in the kitchen, the served food was Russian pork chops and potatoes in sour cream sauce. Randall quietly sliced his pork, after which he replaced it with my plate.
“Why?”
He did not answer and continued what he was doing. No one speaks to us. I just watched him and thought about what I heard earlier.
“Thank you,” I couldn’t help but say.
He stopped cutting; he was about to look up at me but suddenly his cell phone rang loudly.
He stared at the noisy phone for a long time until it died. He was about to put the food on, but it sounded again. I hemmed before speaking.
“Why don’t you answer that? You probably didn’t cheat, did you?” I provoke.
He gritted his teeth before answering the call. I grinned. That’s how strong the word wife is.
“What?” he asked emphatically.
He closed his eyes tightly before letting out a deep sigh. He stood up and covered the phone’s speaker.
When he came out of the kitchen, I asked, but still looked straight at where he was sitting earlier, “How important is that and do you still need to get out?”
I showed him it didn’t bother me and continued to chew food.
“I’m sorry, it’s just really important. Let’s talk after I answer this. Finish your meal.”
He walked out directly. I finished eating, but he still wasn’t coming back, so I went upstairs and entered the bedroom. Unbeknownst to me, I had fallen asleep waiting for him. I opened my eyes slowly when I felt someone caress my cheek and kiss my forehead.
“You’re back, who are you talking to and took you this long?” my question faded, well perhaps because I got tired easily and drowsy.
“Just my former classmate, and talked about business,” he still stroked my hair and cheeks, “did you wait for me? “
“Uh-hmm.”
I heard his little laugh, but there was a trace of sadness until I was completely pulled into drowsiness.
***
I woke up quickly when the sun hit my eye. I got up and was ready to go out when I saw Randall on the balcony of the room drinking coffee and holding a newspaper. If I look at him from a distance, it’s as if I know him very well. He put down the newspaper and our eyes met.
He waved at me and gestured his hands to come closer. I slid the glass door and sat down in front of him.
“Good morning, love,” he greeted, and smiled devilishly.
“L-love? A-aren’t you getting chills from what you’re saying?” I rubbed my two arms as if my skin hair were rising. He just burst into laughter, while my back and neck, and head were hot.
He stopped laughing and turned a serious face, “Anyway, we need to go to the mall so you can choose a nightgown for later.”
“What for?”
“There will be an Appreciation Corporate Event later. They invited all business owners to attend. If you don’t want to and you still can’t, we can notify them.” he took my hand and squeezed it.
I spaced out for a long time and it occurred to me that maybe someone could help me restore my memory immediately when I asked questions about the events they encountered.
When we arrived at the party, I wasn’t wrong ...
We arrived at the event at exactly eight o’clock in the evening. Just after we stepped foot outside the car, many paparazzi took pictures of us. There were also reporters asking about what happened to me. Randall wrapped his hand around my waist as I looked back at the reporter, who had grabbed my attention.
“Is it true that the cause of your accident was because of a controversy about who would be the Phoenix Corporation successor?” I turned to him, but Randall quickly ushered me inside.
The color of the light inside was purple, with black curtains, and spotlights also surrounding us. The event looks elegant because of the entrepreneurs and investors talking about businesses.
What I was wearing now was a cocktail fitted puff long sleeve dress with a cut on the legs paired with a black stiletto and feather white bag with a small silver hand carry. Randall was wearing a cocktail black suit with a black bow tie.
More and more people approached Randall and shook hands with him until they invited him to the other table to introduce himself to other business owners.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t leave my wife,” he reminded them.
I shook my head because I don’t want to be a hindrance to the opportunities that were coming to him. “No! Go there and come back, just find me where the food is in the lineup.” I pushed him towards them so that he could no longer refuse.
He had already left, so I went to where the food was. While I was eating sushi, a woman tapped me on the shoulder. When I looked at who it was, someone happily hugged me. I let her and waited for her excitement to go before I slowly separated her away from me.
“Sorry?” I gave her a confused expression.
She hit herself on the head before asserting, “Of course! You’ve lost your memories. I’m Ava Smith! Your best friend! You! You made me feel lonely! You didn’t even tell me you had a boyfriend. If you haven’t had an accident, I will not know! We’ve been friends for a long time!” she whimpered at me.
“Pardon?”
“Haa! You hid the successor of the Métier Group is your boyfriend. After you had the accident, your demonic aunt Helena and your hypocritical angel stepbrother announced you were planning to get married and everything was ready. Unfortunately, it was canceled for a few weeks because you’ve been in a coma for a week.”
“How could she not know? Aunt Helena told me I had known Randall for a long time and I’ve been in a relationship with him.” I whispered to myself.
I looked at Randall and saw that he was also staring at me.
“What is happening?” I mumbled to myself.
