Chapter 29
He fixed his wristwatch before picking up his car keys and phone. The buzzer of his phone went off. He fetched it from his pocket while walking out of the house. He smiled a bit, answering the call.
“Salamu Alaikum, Mommy. Good morning,” he greeted.
“Wa’alaikumus Salam. How are you doing, Adil? I hope you're doing better now. No more crying, uhm?” she teased, making him chuckle.
“All I can say is alhamdulillah,” he retorted.
“I called to check up on you and see how you're coping....” He had never seen a mother-in-law who cared so much about her son-in-law like Mommy did. She called almost every day to hear how he was doing, and he was more than grateful for that.
“Thank you so much, Mommy. How are you doing—and also Adila and Daddy?”
He could remember what she went through the moment she heard about her daughter’s death. No one actually thought she would survive too. She loved Habiba more than anyone did.
