Chapter 9
“I’m so nervous to meet your family,” she whispered, holding his hand. They landed in Bauchi and were taken home by the driver. He leaned in and kissed her softly on the cheek.
“You’ll love them all, I promise,” he whispered back. “My sisters can’t wait to meet you. They have been bugging me about you nonstop,” he spoke again. Her lips curved upwards brightly.
Just stepping out of the car and gazing at the house made her breathing rapid and shallow. She could feel her pulse pounding in her temples. It was a relief that Adil was holding her because, between the heels and her legs shaking, she was afraid she would trip and fall. Fadila rushed out and enfolded her in a hug.
“Oh my God, you’re finally here,” she exclaimed, hugging Habiba. She felt relieved to see how his sister welcomed her.
“Come in, please. Everyone is excited to meet you,” she said, grabbing Habiba’s hand. She looked back at Adil, who was tailing behind them, smiling. They entered the living r
