I cleared my throat, desperately trying to calm my suddenly racing heart. “I hadn’t thought about that. You’re right, I’m sorry—”

“Don’t apologize,” Alpha Sherman interrupted through the phone, his voice calm yet firm.

There was an unexpected gentleness in his deep tone. “You didn’t do anything wrong. It’s alright. I’ll send over a designer I trust, and you can discuss what style you want with her, then decide with Noah.”

His words gave me pause.

Why was he so considerate? It confused me and left my emotions in turmoil.

Our contract certainly didn’t require this level of attentiveness.

I shook my head trying to clear it, and although he couldn’t see me, I instinctively nodded. “Okay.”

What followed was a long, heavy silence.

Finally, I broke it by asking, “Is there anything else?”

He chuckled, his voice low and rumbling with a predatory edge that was strangely intimate. “Miss me already?”
