Chapter 447
Gretchen ran out of ammo first. She grabbed a sliver coated machete. At one point, she was swinging over the rail at a wolf in human form when a wolf with a running start leapt up and bit Gretchen’s arm, severing her arm at the elbow joint. Gretchen screamed and pulled back a bloody stump.
I handed my gun to Sean. “I have to stop the bleeding, Sean. Do your best to hold them off.”
He nodded, firing again at another wolf. We girls backed slowly from the stairway. I grabbed one of Sean’s belts and wrapped it around Gretchen’s arm, tightening it down.
“Gretchen, join the children in the nursery,” I ordered. I handed her another sliver knife. “Do the best you can. I love you.”
“I love you too, Jess. I’ll die for them.”
“I know you will, honey.”
