The past four weeks had been hectic, but we finally navigated the darkest storm. Alexander’s mother’s funeral was behind us, a poignant ceremony held in California.
Alexander tried to stop me from going there with him but I didn’t listen to him. I wanted to be there for him because I knew he needed me.
The weight of his grief was crushing and I needed to be there for him.
“Should I drop you off at Maya’s house?” Alexander’s gentle voice interrupted my thoughts and I snapped back to reality.
We had only a day left in California and I wanted to see Maya before leaving. The days had been really busy for me, so I didn’t get any chance to see her earlier.
I shook my head. “No, I can just book a ride.”
I didn’t want to inconvenience Alexander in any way, so I politely declined his offer.
Alexander’s brows knitted into a frown. “I am dropping you off at Maya’s house.” He rephrased his sentence, his voice firm.
