Elizabeth’s POV
“I understand,” the Luna said softly, her voice calm and reassuring, the way a mother’s voice is when she knows fear has already rooted itself too deeply in your heart. “But once the main ceremony is over, you will feel much better.”
I wanted to believe her. I really did. I nodded, even though the tightness in my chest hadn’t eased at all. My hands were cold despite the warmth of the room, and my pulse thudded in my ears as if my body itself sensed something was wrong, even if my mind couldn’t yet articulate it.
The Luna stepped closer and placed a small, neatly wrapped box into my trembling hands. The paper was soft, pale cream with a silver ribbon tied carefully around it. The gesture was so intimate, so ceremonial, that my breath caught before I even opened it.
