Chapter 51. First Day

I was awakened at exactly five in the morning by a phone call from an unknown number. I answered my phone lazily, with my eyes still closed, still feeling sleepy. “Hello…” my voice came out muddled as well, and I tried clearing my throat, but it was to no avail.

A deep voice coming from a man could be heard saying, “Miss Rivers, my name is Gabriel, and I’m here in front of your apartment right now to pick you up…”

“Gabriel…?” I couldn’t help but scowl in bewilderment as my eyes shot open wide. “Gabriel who? I’m sorry, but I don’t know someone—”

“I’m Mr. Ellison’s driver, and he ordered me last night to pick you up today because he needs his coffee early in the morning. It is expected that he will awake about 5:30, and you ought to be—”
