Chapter 27
"The sound of birds singing at the window has always been Lucy's favorite part of that house. The sweet sound made her smile even before opening her eyes, and that's how Lucy woke up on that new day, smiling.
She slowly opened her eyes and saw the light curtain swaying in the wind. She watched the small blue birds fly and sing, and she smiled, feeling ready for another day. She put on her slippers and stretched, instinctively walking to the window to fully open the curtain, finding herself gazing at the house in front without even wanting to.
Once again, she heard knocks on her door and smiled, missing that, as it used to be her father waking her up every day.
"Good morning," Lucy greeted, opening the door and finding him there.
"Good morning, dear. Your mother had the brilliant idea of sunbathing in the backyard. Do you want to come with me to the market to buy some soda?"
