“Wait. What?!” Evelyn stared wide-eyed at her best friend as the pen slipped from her hand, landing pinpoint on her foot.

“Arghh!” She squeaked, flinging the notepad to the other side of the room.

“Don't be so loud. He'll hear us.” Ciara whisper-shouted, hurrying over to put her hand over Evelyn's mouth.

The latter swatted her hand away immediately, along with her nose flaring up,

“You lied to Mason that we had a dinner reservation at McDonald's for this?” Evelyn asked in disbelief as she limped towards the window.

Yanking the curtains back, she watched a large-framed guy dressed in a baggy hoodie stalk into his apartment just a short distance away.
