“Boss!” Someone shouted from behind, and I veered my face towards the direction in a startle.

The chaotic scene of me and the workers trying to block out the rain from destroying the remaining barn spaces of our ranch faded out of my consciousness as I watched him whirl around and stride towards their massive landscape of stables.

What just happened? Was he going to approach me but changed his mind?

What in the world does the two of us have to talk about anyway, especially not after the condition they gave me in exchange for saving my dad's ranch?

Tucking the wet strands of my hair behind my ear, I wrinkled my brows as my stare glued to the place he'd disappeared into.

“Ash, my darling.” Gracie called, gently shaking my shoulder, and I almost jumped out of my skin as I turned to her.

Knitting her brows in worry, she helped me brush off more wet strands from my forehead.
