The office was quite except for the sound of the scratching of a fountain pen. Keegan Sergeyev sat behind his desk with his sleeves rolled up just enough to reveal the faint hint of ink stains and his dark, intricate tattoos that snaked along his forearms. His eyes were sharp and fixed on the papers in front of him, where his signatures were needed to seal shipments, alliances, and other business matters.

Out of nowhere, the door opened with a gentle knock.

“Boss,” came Xy’s voice, low and respectful as always.

Keegan didn’t look up right away. He finished signing the last document with an elegant flick of his wrist, then leaned back in his chair and finally raised his eyes.

Xy stepped forward with measured steps, stopping just short of the desk. “I thought you’d want to hear this directly. The Blackwoods and Castellanos are holding a private rendezvous tonight. Grace Blackwood and Ulysses Castellano will officially be engaged tonight.
