Chapter 129

Since the day Grace woke up, Keegan never missed to visit.

He didn’t make a show of it. He brought flowers, yes, but only for the vase on her bedroom’s bedside table. Other than that, there were no dramatic declarations. He didn’t try to force a smile out of her or ask how she was feeling when the answer was written in the weight under her eyes. He just showed up quietly, consistently, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

He brought her tea in the mornings, still hot in its porcelain cup. Sometimes he’d leave it on the bedside table without a word. Other times, he’d sit with her in silence, watching the steam curl as she wrapped her hands around the mug. He didn’t press her to talk. Didn’t ask for anything in return.

Grace didn’t know what to make of it at first. Part of her thought he was keeping watch out of duty. Maybe pity. She didn’t trust it, not right away. She had too many people stand at her bedside just long enough to feel good about walking
