Chapter 123

My shoulder burned at the same moment that consciousness hit me. And it was a different kind of burning. My skin opened, my muscles moved away, and a bullet projectile lodged against my body, shaking blood and fluids in its path. The burning was like putting your hand in a very hot pan and then putting it in the water with ice. It was a kind of painful shock and I screamed when the consciousness of the shot reached my senses of survival.

I had been shot. I knew I could have left and escaped that chaos, as soon as Lany's cronies made their first victims. I could be at that moment in Flynn's car, going home with him, in order to celebrate our New Year's Eve. I could have hidden anywhere else. But I wanted to show the cameras that I was as surprised as all the other employees. Because I expected to get out of there alive. I expected the police to question themselves about any suspicious activity on the cameras, and I didn't want to have problems in my future.
