The words hit me like a blow

We lost her.

For a few seconds, everything went silent. My brain refused to process what Samantha had just said. I stood there frozen, staring at her with wide, unblinking eyes as the world around me started spinning.

“No…” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “No… you’re lying. She was just… she was just talking to me. She can’t be…”

My knees buckled. I felt like someone had ripped the ground from under my feet. A sharp, suffocating pain exploded in my chest as the reality crashed down on me.

“No! No, no, no!” I screamed, my voice breaking into a raw, guttural sob. “She can’t be gone! I just got her back! You’re lying! You did something to her, didn’t you?!”

Tears poured down my face uncontrollably. My whole body started shaking violently as I clutched my chest, struggling to breathe. It felt like my heart was being torn apart.

“Ellie… my Ellie…” I cried, my legs giving out completely.
