Chapter 107. Witch
Proserpina
I came awake in the early hours of the morning and put out my hand to reach for my husband. It was chill in the room and I missed his warm, hard body.
But Lucien was not beside me. The grey dawn filtered in through the blinds. I sat up slowly and looked around me. My short shift had ridden up during the night and my hair was a tangled mess, tendrils curling around my face.
Looking towards the window, I saw him, standing still and oblivious to the fact that I was awake.
Shaking my head sorrowfully, I rose slowly.
A couple of years had lapsed since that terrible night when our lives had seemed to come to a standstill but I knew that my lover would carry the scars with him forever, as we all did.
I wept sometimes but Lucien held himself back, never letting anyone know how he was dealing with the betrayal of a man he had trusted with his life.
The friend who had tried to kill him and sell me off into the sex trade.
