“You crazy woman, Cassandra! How dare you threaten me…!” Linda completely lost it, raising her hand to slap Cassandra.

But Cassandra caught her wrist mid-air, her stunningly cold face inches away from her, voice laced with scorn. “Ms. Quinn, taking what’s not yours always comes with a price.”

She threw Linda’s hand aside and strode off without another glance.

Not once did she call Linda ‘Mrs. Hawthorne’. Even if she never stepped foot in the Hawthorne family again, Cassandra would never acknowledge Linda as her father’s wife.

After leaving the café, Cassandra wasn’t in the mood to go home. She boarded a random bus, zoning out as the scenery blurred past the window.

Who knows how long it was before the driver’s voice snapped her out of it?

She got off at the last stop, frowning a little at the quiet surroundings. Just as she opened her map, a loud honk startled her, and she looked up sharply.

“Hey cutie, here to check out the campus?”
