“Hmm? You think I did something wrong?”

Gabriel shot the question right back at her.

Lilah: “...”

Caught off guard, she yanked the blanket up to her chin and mumbled, “The outbreak’s gotten worse here. I know a professor from the institute, so I came to see if I could help out.”

“When did you get here?”

Gabriel’s deep, ocean-like eyes locked onto her, sharp and unwavering.

Lilah hesitated for a moment but came clean. “This morning.”

“So you arrived in the morning and didn’t bother calling me until nighttime?”

His tone dropped a few degrees, clearly not thrilled.

“I just didn’t want to distract you from work,” she replied, looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes.

“Didn’t want to distract me, or didn’t want me distracting you?” Gabriel asked coolly.

Lilah didn’t want to argue. She slid closer to him like a cat curling up.

He wrapped his arm around her without a word.

Resting in his arms, she asked quietly
