Then Gabriel looked over at Clara.

She was calmly cutting her steak into small pieces, eating with slow, practiced bites.

He glanced down at his own plate, hesitated for a moment like he was about to do something, but in the end let the idea go.

“The lotus pond at home is in full bloom—no need to go all the way to that kind of place just to look at flowers.”

Gabriel didn’t seem too into the food. After a few bites, he put down his fork and knife, picked up his wine glass, and took another sip.

“Huh? We have a lotus pond?” Lilah looked up, obviously confused.

Gabriel didn’t respond. He just gazed at her quietly, with that unreadable calm expression.

“So... I guess we do.” Lilah chuckled awkwardly and lowered her gaze. “The estate’s huge... There are still so many spots I haven’t seen.”

With how big their villa was, it’d easily take half a day to walk it all. Normally, she just stayed in the main area and rarely wandered to other parts.<
