“Heather’s kinda tied up lately, not sure when she’ll be back. I’ll take some time to help you with your homework in the meantime.” Lilah Hart gently patted the boy’s soft hair.

Heather Taylor’s mom had been hospitalized, and as her only child, she had to step in and care for her.

Aiden Wallace was already in kindergarten now, learning quite a bit there, so Lilah wasn’t too worried about him falling behind.

“Okay!” Aiden chirped happily.

He loved having his mom as his teacher.

Gabriel Wallace missed his kid too. He crouched down, trying to scoop Aiden up with one arm.

But clearly forgot how fast kids grow—Aiden was over three years old now and much taller. One-arm lifts just didn’t cut it anymore.

He paused awkwardly but managed to lift Aiden up.

Lilah eyed the move and couldn’t help but nudge him, “He’s getting big—you might wanna rethink how you’re lifting him.”

“I can still manage,” Gabriel replied, holding Aiden with one arm
