"I understand your concerns," I say, "but I can't ignore this attraction, and I want to explore our connection and see where it takes us."
She looks at me for a moment, eyes shimmering, and then nods. "I want that too," she says, twirling her hair around her finger, "but I don't want to risk my job.”
"I promise I’ll do everything in my power to make sure our relationship doesn't impact your career or our work environment," I tell her honestly, omitting the part where she’ll be a kept woman once she marries me. "I care about you too much to let you go, and don’t try to tell me things are moving too fast. I saw how badly you wanted me back there, and I want to be with you, too. Not just in a professional capacity but in a physical and emotional one as well."
