Chapter 107. Tension
Ayana’s POV
The air crackles with dread, silence cutting through our bones as Adam’s words remain like a cloud in the air. Robby swallows hard and dry, his Adam’s apple denoting how hard his swallow was with how long it took to move up back to its place. His throat must have cracked with that dry swallow, seemingly.
More than angry, he looks afraid. His eyes are darting in the small space between Adam and me without looking straight into any of our eyes. And when he finally amasses the little courage to look at Adam, his gaze is like he is trying to gauge how much Adam can read into him.
Robby clears some nothingness from his throat after a long while, preparing to speak, but words seem so distant from his mouth. His mouth remains open, but no words are coming out.
