Chapter 27
Breathing steadily with arms draped lovingly over her, Mitchell watched George’s chest rise and fall as he slept soundly. At that moment, she wished she was in his shoes with no troubling thoughts running through the length and breadth of her head.
It was only a day before the case, and apart from the usual apprehension she got just before a court sitting and the guilt eating into her due to the secret she was keeping from George, there was something else nagging just behind her mind, but she couldn’t place a finger on it.
The more she tried, the more it remained vague. The sudden shrill of her phone made her jump up in shock, silence it, and gaze at George to make sure it hadn’t woken him up.
Earlier that day, she had finally unblocked her dad and siblings’ numbers, so when she gazed at the screen, and it read “Steph,” she was surprised.
