I contained my desire to hit Anne with her own bible. She had to see to believe that something was really wrong, when Zylah gave all the signs that she was feeling sick with things beyond this world, and when I made it very clear that I had a lot more to tell if she wanted to hear. The black cloud that rose to the sky didn't seem to have an end. I spent a long moment watching, not wanting to throw my anger at Anne, because it was not her fault. No one in their normal judgment would believe it if a person said the things I said. Miguel was absolutely right. I had to have done that before, especially in a more reserved place.

Zylah had only believed it because she was crazy, and had a great tendency to wish her literary novels were real. Even if I were lying, she would create a world based on my information, just to have a parallel reality in which to live.
