Chapter 7. Choices

Travis leaned slightly forward across the mahogany table that gleamed from meticulous care, his eyes locked on Camila’s. The ambient hum of the upscale café they’d chosen for this meeting seemed to recede into silence as she spoke.

“Blake is my fiancé,” Camila said, her voice steady but carrying an edge that hinted at the turmoil beneath. Travis’s poised demeanour didn’t waver, though internal alarms were sounding. “And I’ve found documents related to your company at his place.”

“Documents?” Travis probed, his tone laced with a practised calmness that belied his sudden interest.

“Let’s just say, Blake isn’t as straightforward as he presents himself to be,” Camila replied, her dark eyes holding a glint of defiance. She slid a folded piece of paper across the table towards him.

He unfolded it discreetly, casting a quick glance over the contents- figures, accounts, transactions- all pointing to something amiss.
