“What exactly did you hear?”
“Enough to know it’s bad, Camila. She mentioned your name, some sort of document…” Blake’s voice crackled through the phone line, tense and rushed, as if he were glancing over his shoulder even while speaking. “I couldn’t get everything. But you have to be careful.”
Camila stood frozen in the center of her living room, the city lights outside her floor-to-ceiling windows blurring into streaks of white and gold. Her grip tightened around her phone.
“Okay. Okay,” she said, forcing calm into her voice even as her pulse spiked. “I’ll… I’ll figure something out.”
Her mind was already racing ahead of her words, attempting to piece together fragments that refused to align. A document. Her name. Layla. None of it made sense, yet all of it felt dangerously real.
