“Doctor… how is he?”

I shot up from the sofa the moment Dylan stepped out. I couldn’t sit still even if I wanted to — nervous energy made my body feel like it was vibrating.

“You’re still here?” Dylan asked, tired, shoulders drooping. But I didn’t care about his exhaustion.

“Do you expect me to be somewhere else? Please, just tell me how he is.”
My impatience was barely controlled.

Celine and Miss Nancy moved closer to me for support. Zion was asleep at home under heavy security — bodyguards positioned throughout the house, including outside his door. A baby monitor was with them as well. I wasn’t taking chances.

“We were able to remove the bullets,” Dylan began, exhaling. “Though it was risky. Both shots were extremely close to his heart. He flatlined once during surgery.”
