Chapter 37. The Attack
Shimma’s POV
As we drove into the driveway, my heart sank at the sight of flashing red and blue lights. Police cars crowded our compound, while an ambulance worked just in front of our gate. I could see a small gathering of people murmuring anxiously as they stared inside our compound. It felt so unbelievable. The house we had left quiet and perfect a few hours ago had become a crime scene.
“Mattias, what’s happening?” I asked, my voice trembling as I unbuckled my seatbelt.
He stepped out, scanning the scene with a look of dread on his face. My stomach twisted in knots as I remembered Noah and Nora.
Without thinking, I pushed through the crowd, my heart racing. “My kids!” I called, but I could barely hear my own voice.
I spotted a stretcher being loaded into the ambulance, and my breath caught in my throat. Loreta, our nanny, lay there, covered in blood and barely conscious.
